The Summerville Sweet Tea Festival!

Summerville is the birthplace of Sweet Tea, there is no argument there! We are so excited about the Sweet Tea festival that we had to share all of its exciting details! We hope to see you there!

Happy September Summerville! We are excited that it’s getting closer to the official fall season, but we are even more excited about this year’s 8th annual Sweet Tea Festival that will be Thursday, September 19th through Saturday, September 21st, 2019! This year Raising Cane’s is the presenting sponsor and they helping the city of Summerville create the biggest festival yet! This year the festival is expanding its hours into the weekend, allowing more people to enjoy the event. The official tea tasting has been moved to Saturday, allowing more weekend visitors to take part in this exciting event! City officials and Summerville DREAM are very positive that the number of attendees is going to grow from 2018’s over 3000 attendees for this year’s festival, and they hope the festival will reach its full potential in the next five years. They hope that by 2022 or 2023, over 40,000 people will be in town to enjoy the festival!

Summerville has always been known as the birthplace of sweet tea. But is that true? Yes! As history goes, the very first tea plantation was on Middleton Plantation which is modern-day Summerville. A few hundred years after those plants were planted, they are still growing to this day. Our beautiful little city has taken pride in this incredible resource and still celebrates it today. Not only in ways that you can drink tea, but also in the form of unique crafts, gifts, and of course the largest glass of sweet tea according to the Guinness Book of World Records. If you haven’t yet, make sure you make a visit to MASON, the enormous mason jar built to hold that large glass of sweet tea. The Summerville Museum even has an exhibit on sweet tea, and of course, don’t forget about the Summerville Sweet Tea Trail! Not only will you learn a little more about this sweet plant, but the trail will also take you on a historical tour of our town and the surrounding areas!

We hope you come out and enjoy this year’s festival! Here is a list of what you should be expecting throughout the weekend!
