The Race is On!

Summerville is gearing up for its 11th Family YMCA Youth Triathlon! Don’t forget to sign up and get prepared before the race passes you by!

Health is something very important to everyone at Progressive Family Dentistry – and that goes beyond the health of your teeth and gums! We support and love the health of our bodies and the bodies of our patients. Which is why we are so excited to celebrate the 11th Summerville Family YMCA Youth Triathlon on August 17th! Over 200 Summerville youth will be participating in the triathlon, and the excitement is already buzzing. The event is open for girls and boys ages 7-14, as they run, bike, and swim through the beautiful neighborhood and trails of the Ponds Community.
The event is split into two age groups, 7-10, and 11-14, and each has different race distances personalized for their age groups. The younger group will swim 100m, or two laps in the pool. They will move onto a 2.5-mile bike ride, or one lap around the course, and finish with a half-mile run. The older age group will swim 200m, or four laps in the pool. Which is followed by a 5-mile bike ride, or two laps around the course, and a 1-mile run. Will this be your child’s very first triathlon race? No worries! The YMCA is offering triathlon training. Registration for training is now open until August 1st. Training will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6pm at the Oakbrook YMCA. The race fees are part of the training price. There will also be two practice runs on July 20th and August 8th at 8 AM for families who are participating to see and experience the course and to ask any questions. This will be at the official course, located at The Ponds Farmhouse. There will be five award categories offered for the race. Boys and Girls ages 7-8, Boys and girls ages 9-10, boys and girls 11-12, boys and girls ages 13-14, and Overall boys and girls.
Please be aware that there are a handful of rules that must be followed to be a participant in the race. Find them below.
  • Parents are not allowed in transition areas
  • Shirts or one-piece swimsuit required
  • No footwear in the pool
  • No one may race shirtless

Haven’t signed up yet? The race is limited to only 250 participants, so make sure you sign up sooner rather than later. There is also no registration on race day. Online registration will end on August 15th and in house registration is open up until packet pickup which ends on August 17th. Registration was $25 before June 30th, but it is now $35 up until registration day closes. Since this is a fundraiser for the YMCA, no refund will be given.
The race will begin at The Ponds Farmhouse at 7:30 AM on August 17th. The Ponds is located at 326 Hundred Oaks Parkway. Please note that parking will be very limited at the farmhouse, so the Y will also be available for parking. Please come early and be prepared.
