It’s time to kick off 2020 with one of the most popular and largest festivals in the United States, and we couldn’t be more excited about it!
January is a hard month to get excited about. But not here in the Lowcountry! It is officially oyster season, and what a better way to ring in the new year than with the Low Country Oyster Festival? This family-friendly event will be celebrating its 38th year in 2020. Boone Hall opened its doors and its polo fields to the festival for the first time in January of 1982, and it has become a very popular and special staple for everyone here in the Lowcountry and the thousands of others who have made the trip since its very first year.
The festival will take place on January 26th at Boon Hall Plantation from 10 am to 5 pm, plenty of time to eat your fill and see all kinds of wonderful things! You can buy tickets in advance online or at the gates the day of. Advance tickets are $17.50 and tickets at the door the day of are $25. Children who are 10 and under are free. There is also an option of purchasing a VIP Ticket for $130. This ticket includes an exclusive area that includes catered unlimited local oysters, other food, and beverages. Seating and tables are provided to enjoy everything with. This year the VIP section will be catered by Queen Street Hospitality.
This beloved event has become the largest Oyster Festival in the world, which we are so proud of. It was also named one of the “Top 20 events in the Southeast”, which was no surprise. Over 80,000 oysters will be rolled out onto the polo field on the day of the event, and guests will be able to purchase them by the bucket. You will have the opportunity to eat them in many different ways, so don’t worry! For those not partial to oysters but who love the experience, there will be a food court that will offer an amazing range of food from some of the most popular restaurants in the Lowcountry.
The day will be filled with oyster shucking contests, oyster eating contests, live bands, a children’s area, and much more. The festival is a charitable fundraiser. The charities and partnerships that the festival will be benefiting this year will be announced closer to the actual date of the festival. This will be one of the hottest events of 2020, and you won’t want to miss it! Get your tickets now or be prepared to wait in line. We can’t wait to see you there, it will be a shuckin’ good time!
