An amazing opportunity is right around the corner for you to stay in shape and give back to your community!
Happy February, Summerville! We have shared some pretty amazing events happening right here in our amazing town just in the first few weeks of the new year. We are so excited to see what the rest of 2020 will bring us! The next wonderful event is one that will help you celebrate your love of staying active and giving back to your community! We are right around the corner from the 19th annual Run with Dolphins 5K and the inaugural DolphinFest!
On February 22, join our amazing community and all the runners involved in the Newington Elementary school 5K, Fun Run/Walk, and DolphinFest. This year’s race will be run in the memory of Newington Teacher, and avid runner, the late Tommy Henry. Mr. Henry was an avid member of the Summerville fitness community, and his loss has been devastating for the entire community. During the race, there will be opportunities to support his family, with other chances during the festival as well. The DolphinFestival will take place right after the 5K and Fun Run. It will have all kinds of vendor booths, jump castles, food trucks, live music and more! It will be the perfect ending to an even better day for you and your family.
Both the 5K and Fun Run/Walk will begin in the parking lot of Newington Elementary School. Race packets can be picked up Friday, February 21st from 3 PM to 7 PM. 5K runners will need to meet in the parking lot of the elementary school before the 8 AM start time. The Fun Run/Walk will start at 9 AM in the parking and will last for one mile. The 5K is a VSTA certified course that runs through the Newington neighborhood right here in Summerville. Awards will be given to participants in both the 5K and to everyone in the Fun Run. All proceeds from this amazing day will go to support the PTA and school programs for Newington Elementary. For those running the 5K, shirts will be given out (register early for these, they are not promised for day-of registration runners) and will feature artwork from Newington School students.
Registration is now open, and prices do change as we get closer to race day. Register now so you don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity. We hope to see you on the 22nd to run in memory of Mr. Henry and to celebrate with our community at the DolphinFest.
