Keeping a smile beautiful sometimes is cause for creativity. Depending on the quality and state of a person’s teeth at time of treatment resorts in a process called dental bonding. This procedure takes tooth-colored resin and molds it into the desired shape of the tooth.
When to receive a dental bond
- To repair decayed teeth
- To repair chipped or cracked teeth
- To close spaces between teeth
- To change the shape of teeth
- To protect an exposed root
Prepare the Tooth
Depending on the condition of your tooth, the dentist will prepare the tooth accordingly. Drilling of the tooth in order to change the shape could occur and the client will be under general anesthesia. Often, drilling is not necessary.
In order for the resin to firmly attach to the tooth, the surface needs to be roughened. The color matched resin will then be applied in the desired shape and hardened with a blue light. After the hardening of the resin, the dentist will further shape the new tooth to blend with the others.
