Crowns & Bridges

A dental crown is a covering that is placed over a damaged or decaying tooth. Crowns can even be placed over teeth that are generally unattractive due to miscoloring or small chips. We have a very skilled lab that creates crowns that are works of art. With today’s technology, crowns blend in with natural teeth.

Beyond porcelain, crowns can be made with other materials like gold. Gold is the most durable crown material and is sometimes the best option for the back molars. When it comes to choosing the right crown for you, we would be happy to discuss the pros and cons of these various options with you.

Bridges

Crowns can also be used to create a lifelike replacement for a missing tooth through bridgework. A bridge requires at least three crowns and covers the missing tooth’s space. Two crowns are set on the healthy teeth on each side of the missing tooth and become the support for the crown placed in the middle.

Though nobody wishes an emergency on anyone, they do happen. You need to be prepared. Just a little knowledge could be the difference between losing and saving your tooth. It is important to know our number or have it close! We are here for you at Progressive Family Dentistry, especially during emergencies.

Three Tips for Your Teeth

  • Whenever you lose a permanent tooth, you need to keep it wet. If you are able, place it back into the socket. You can also keep it between your cheek and teeth or place it in milk to try to save it.
  • Whenever you have blood in your mouth, it is a good idea to rinse your mouth with warm water. You can always place a warm compress to help reduce swelling. Whenever you have something stuck, you should try to use floss instead of something sharp!
  • You should do everything you can to protect your teeth. Mouth guards are helpful during sports and other physical activities. You shouldn’t chew hard foods that might break a tooth. Never tear or cut anything using your teeth. That is what scissors are for.

Teeth Cleaning

Brushing and flossing your teeth regularly is a great habit but odds are, you won’t be able to clean your own teeth to the extent that a professional with the proper tools and knowledge can. That is why you need to schedule cleanings with your dentist at least every 6 months.

Teeth can build up plaque in hidden cracks that cannot be reached without the right instruments. The longer the build-up accumulates, the more bacteria can grow and major problems like tooth decay and gum disease can arise. Schedule a cleaning with our office today and let us help you keep your mouth’s health in check!
